10 Fastest Military Airplanes

Military air power has made great strides, from an observation balloon to invisible Stealth B-2 spirit Bomber. This is story of ten fastest military airplanes. These planes are piloted, uses jet engine and travels at supersonic speed.

Here are the Top 10 fastest military planes:

1. SR-71 Blackbird

SR-71 Blackbird is rated number 1 with speed of Mach 3.2. It was introduced in 1966, and it stands as the fastest manned reconnaissance aircraft in the history. Its maiden flight was in 1964, and entered service in 1966.

2. MiG -25R Foxbat-B

MiG -25R Foxbat-B

MiG -25R Foxbat-B with speed of 3.2 Mach comes second. Its maiden flight was in 1964. It is equipped with an automatic fire control system, look-down shoot-down radar.

3. MiG-31 FoxHound

MiG-31 FoxHound

MiG-31 FoxHound with Mach 2.83 is rated three. Its maiden flight was in 1975, and it entered service in 1983. It is equipped with powerful engines, and advance tracking radar.

4. F-15 Eagle

F-15 Eagle cruising at Mach 2.5 takes position four. It entered service in 1979. It has a count of over 100 successful missions.

5. F-111 Aardvark- Mach

F-111 Aardvark- Mach 2.5 is rated five. It is known for its detachable and enclosed module designed that allows crew to eject in case of an emergency. Its maiden flight was in 1964, and it entered military service in 1967.

Su-24 Fencer-Mach 2.4 stands at number six. Its outstanding feature is the ability to hit mach 2.4 at low altitudes.

Its maiden flight was in 1967, and entered military service in 1974.

F-14 Tomcat- Mach 2.37 is rated 7.  It made its maiden flight in November 23, 1987, while the final prototype flight on February 9, 1990.

Su-27 Flanker- Mach 2.35 is rated 8.  Its First prototype was flown on May 20, 1977, and final design was completed on April 20, 1981. It set plenty of records such as take-off speed and the highest climbed altitude.

9. MiG-23 Flogger-Mach

MiG-23 Flogger-Mach 2.35 is rated number 9. It has a powerful engine, sweep wings that could change variables like speed, takeoff time, and landing time. Its first flight was in June 10,196, and it entered into service in 1973.

10. F-14D Super Tomcat- Mach

F-14D Super Tomcat- Mach

F-14D Super Tomcat- Mach 2.34 rated number ten. It was made to be able to destroy the enemy aircraft at night.  Its maiden flight was 1987, while the final prototype flight in 1990.

These military airplanes are either Russian or American made.

Russian made include: MiG -25R Foxbat-B Su-27 Flanker; 2.35. MiG-23 Flogger, MiG-31 Foxhound; Su-24 Fencer.

United State of America Made

American made fastest military planes include F-15 Eagle; F-111 Aardvark; F-14 Tomcat; SR-71 Blackbird; F-14D Super Tomcat; F-14 Tomcat.

Active in Service

Some of these war planes still in active service are: F-15 Eagle; MiG-23 Flogger; Su-24 Fencer; MiG-31; MiG-25R Foxbat-B, and Su 27 Flacker.

Retired From Service

The retired   fastest military airplanes include: F-111 Aardvark; SR-71 Blackbird; F-14D Super Tomcat; F-14 Tomcat.
