Healthy Living Guidelines For Militay Kids

Posted on 17 July 2011

Many military families get worried about their kids’ health. Obesity rate is high among American children, who are under the age of 14. This is a serious threat to them. The best practice is to nip the evil in the bud. Let your children adopt a healthy lifestyle from the beginning. Follow these guidelines to resolve the problem:

Increase physical activity

Increase physical activity

Like others, modern military kids are also not doing enough physical activities. Their sedentary lifestyle is the main cause of overweight problem. To combat this issue, include sufficient work out according to the capacity of child. It can be:

  • using stairs instead of elevators in shopping malls
  • playing real basketball, instead of doing it in digital video game
  • Watering plants in morning or evening

It can be enjoyable, fruitful as well as help them burn substantial amount of calories. Alternately, you can accompany young ones on a shopping trip, camping, swimming etc. It will allow them to keep moving or running without realizing that they are reducing fat deposits from their bodies.

Interactive learning

Children get bored when asked to sit quiet and listen to elders’ speech. Try involving them in the conversation to let them express their opinion. It will keep them stuck for a longer time. They learn better in such a way. This technique of interactive learning is being successfully used in many schools.

Integration in daily routine

Instead of giving boring lectures to your kids, try to add useful practices in their everyday life. The child may not act upon your advice, if you verbally tell him to do work out.

But, when you particularly point out and give instructions to him about getting his milk bottle from the fridge downstairs, he will happily obey. You can also ask them to find out his favorite presents, hidden somewhere in the house. In such a way, he will have to walk or run in search of the item. It’s indeed a smart trick.

Dietary habits

From the first year of their life, children start developing taste for various foods. Feed them with nutritious organic foods only. Many parents make a serious mistake of introducing candies, chocolates, jellies, and processed foods to their kids. These are not only unhealthy but also difficult to avoid because of their tempting taste. Their meals should be well planned with nutritious foods from all groups.

Avoid fats

Avoid fats

If the child is naturally overweight, nothing to worry about. Just reduce or skip fats, butter, cream, desserts and bakery products. Substitute flavored yogurt with ice cream. Give fresh juicy sweet fruits in place of candies. Fresh juices are much better than artificially flavored.

Let things go

Remember, kids have their own feelings, temperament and preferences. Try to be lenient with them instead of strictly imposing your will. They will start revolting at some point in life, if treated harsh. They are innocent and cannot act as a robot who exactly behaves according to programmed instructions. Let them nourish in an easy going manner. Don’t shout at them all the time. Behave nicely to make them opt a health living.
